Revitalsing Hazelbank Orchard for Newtownabbey Borough Council

25 May 2010

spouncerECOLOGY is currently providing advice on the development of a project to re-vitalise an old orchard for a local council. This is an innovative project involving different departments to include Parks, Arts, Culture and Community Development. Ass well as rejuvenation old fruit trees and planting new - it will also include a cultural memory project about the orchard and develop and train staff and public in forgotten or `rusty' skills in grafting these old fruit trees - to include 19th century dessert and eating apples, esplier pears, plums and crab apples. It is hoped to plant new fruit trees in the coming years and invite the public and users of the park to send in memories of the orchard and recipes.
