Celia Spouincer coordinates food education project with 8 primary schools

25 September 2008

Celia Spouncer continued with the Runner Beans to Playstation Project with a programme of cooking in primary schools. Children were engaged in pciking vegetatbles grown as part of the project, preparing a menu, and creating a `restaurant kitchen' to cook the produce. Children cut, peeled and prepared vegetables, cooked up a range of dishes - in some cases following a European theme - linking with European languages project and finally sat down to a banquet - a long table was set and children sat down withg teachers and parents to share the meal cooked. This was an excellent example of connected food education learning.

The project did involve certain skills which children are generally protected from because of concerns of risk. However, tightly supervised, the children were allowed to use knives. graters and peelers to prepare vegetables!

The project will now culminate in a celebration of all that has been achieved and an opportunity to show case the project and for other schools to learn from the successes of the project. A huge thanks goes to UnLtd for the funding and all schools involved.
