Inland and coastal flooding will continue to be an increasing issue over the coming decades. We recently attended a conference at Sheffield Hallam University which included a diverse range of speakers addressing a variety of relevant topics - flood risk assessment, landscape restoration at a macro scale such as the Great Fen Project, farming and flood storage, community engagement in flooding issues, impacts on agriculture, development on floodplains - the risks, European models and approaches to landscape management to reduce and slow down run-off, upland moorland management and restoration, river restoration, fiscal incentives to assist with floodplain management, urban river corridors, the impact of appropriate urban design to mitigate against urban water run-off and sustainable urban drainage.
