Silver Medal for Show Garden Design at Garden Festival Ireland Hillsborough Castle

8 June 2007

Celia Spouncer makes presentation to Down District Council to thank them for their financial support for the project.

Silver Medal for Show Garden `Runner Beans to Playstations - Food, Family Garden Connections ‘ Designed and Concept by Celia Spouncer
Major funding and support by Down District Council.

The Show Garden presented an upbeat allotment for modern living. The theme of the garden focused on food, family, health and garden connections through the creation of a conducive atmosphere for garden fresh food and a space where generations can find time to be together and learn from each other. Over 200 grandparents, grandchildren and friends have grown vegetables for the project. In addition a number of art workshops have explored a range of food issues. Detail design includes a central allotment with plants and art features, a multifunctional stage space for theatre productions and music, a `computer games’ space with a canopy and pea pod seat, a calming herb and flower , a central pathway with food culture stories through mosaics, a seating area for performances with broad bean seat and art features within the garden (wall hangings, mosaics, ceramic vegetables and pea pod seats).

Food Family Garden Connections is involved in a number of innovative, local community initiatives to promote food and health issues and links with innovative campaigns and projects worldwide to engage young people with the food they eat and the people and cultures impacted by our decisions – Slowfood/Terra Madre movement, local farmers markets, health zone projects, grow your own vegetables projects and art /drama performances.
